Stag Night is what I go by in the Harry Potter fandom.  I liked the name.  I really like James Potter, so anything to do with the word 'stag' is great in my book.  If you didn't know what a stag night is, it's pretty much a bachelor party.  So as I see it, it's a bunch of guys having fun, and I figure that's what the Marauders are all about.  The whole "stag" thing just makes it perfect.  And of course, 'night' is often associated with the fantasy world, so that part is quite nice as well.

I enjoy writing fanfiction and creating fanart (not that I'm very good at it).  I really enjoy trying to keep things canon and true to J.K. Rowling's original Harry Potter books.  When I write, I don't want to end up with something off the wall that would probably never happen.  I want my stories to be normal and solid and something that could have been likely.

I first began reading the Harry Potter books in 1999, with the release of Prisoner of Azkaban (at least that's when it came out in the U.S.)  I quickly rushed through the first two books, as well as PoA, and immediately fell in love with Sirius Black and Remus Lupin.  I missed Remus terribly in GOF, but enjoyed Sirius's role.  By the time Order of the Phoenix came out in 2003, I had grown quite fond of James as well.  I had stayed away from fanfiction for a long time, fearing it would ruin my views on the books, or worse, confuse me as to what's canon and fanon.

I ended up reading a Sirius/Remus fic in 2005, after Half Blood Prince came out.  I missed Sirius, and sought out fanfiction on him.  Though I had a hard time accepting how huge slash is in the fandom, I eventually became used to it.  I don't write it myself, but I don't have any problems with it either.  The main thing is that it showed me that fanfiction is a fantastic way to explore other ideas or pairings that you might never see, and even more, such as missing moments or past history.

After a few months of merely reading fanfic (I was quickly becoming obsessed), I ventured into writing my own in early 2006 - for a New Year's story challenge.  I've been hooked ever since.  Since then, I've deleted all of my first fics.  I even took a break from writing for a while, and came back wanting to start fresh.  Because of that, all of my stories are pretty recent, but I like to think I'm a better writer now than I was back then.

My favourite Harry Potter book is Order of the Phoenix, followed by Prisoner of Azkaban.  I really enjoyed Deathly Hallows as well.  My favourite characters are Sirius and James, although I am very fond of Regulus also for some reason, minor character though he is.

There is one other series that I truly enjoyed as much as Harry Potter, and that is the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind.  I adore Richard.  Terry Goodkind doesn't allow fanfiction, and I have to say I'm really glad.  I think his characters and books are too deep and complicated, and fanfiction would only dishonor everything that makes those characters who they are.

I write solely because I love the characters.  I do not aspire to be a published author, and I have no interest in writing original fiction.  Characterisation is my main priority when writing, followed by keeping my stories canon.  That's pretty much all there is to say about me.
